Housewarming gift: 5 minerals from PLN 93 and which ones not to wash with water

Dwie podstawki z agatu ze złoconym brzegiem, szara i czarna, na drewnianym parapecie obok kluczy do nowego mieszkania i doniczki z rośliną
GiftsThursday, October 8

For a housewarming, give a mineral instead of yet another candle: an agate coaster with a gilded edge costs PLN 93 from us, while kyanite on a stand costs PLN 249. Add a care card to this original gift: do not wash kyanite or gilded edges with water, but wipe them dry, and do not place amethyst on a sunny windowsill.

The essentials in 30 seconds
  1. From PLN 93: an agate coaster with a gilded edge, each with a different layer pattern. For mugs, rings, or keys by the entrance.
  2. Do not wash with water: kyanite or gilded edges. Clean kyanite gently and dry, as it chips easily, and wipe the gilding with a dry, soft cloth, without detergents.
  3. Not for a sunny windowsill: amethyst fades from excessive light.
  4. Least demanding: black tourmaline is scratch-resistant (7–7.5 on the Mohs scale) and has no pronounced cleavage.

Agate coaster with a gilded edge

An oval slice of agate with an edge covered in 24-karat gold. Each one has a different pattern of layers, so no two are alike. It can be used under a mug, for rings on a dresser, or for keys by the door. We have beige, gray, black, white, and green coasters; the green ones are dyed, as noted on the product page. Dyeing agate is an old jewelry-making tradition that developed in the early 19th century in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.

Until October 15, the coasters are part of the “Open Display Case” promotion and cost PLN 93. The lowest price in the 30 days before the discount was PLN 155. Wipe the gilded edge with a dry, soft cloth, without detergents.

Raw black tourmaline piece

This matte black piece from Brazil weighs 300 g and costs PLN 180. It is the least demanding stone on this list: tourmaline has a hardness of 7–7.5 on the Mohs scale and no pronounced cleavage. Its hardness protects it from scratches, but not from falling onto tiles. It works well on a desk in a new study or on a bookshelf.

Blue kyanite on a stand

Kyanite forms flat, parallel blades in a sapphire-blue color. Specimen no. 247 is 11 cm tall (16 cm with the black stand) and weighs 344 g. It costs PLN 249, the same as two other specimens from Brazil: no. 248 (9 cm, 425 g) and no. 250 (8 cm, 384 g).

Kyanite easily splits along the crystals, so clean it gently, dry, and without scrubbing, and place the stand away from the edge of the shelf.

Emerald tray with a gilded edge

This flat emerald slice from Brazil with a gilded edge is part of the “Open Display Case” promotion until October 15 and costs PLN 1,040. Lowest price in the 30 days before the discount: PLN 1,499. This is a one-of-a-kind piece: it measures 33 × 21 cm, is 2 cm high, and weighs 1.82 kg. It serves as a decorative tray for a table or chest of drawers and makes a suitable gift from several people together.

The polished surface is dark green, with lighter green and black patches, a glassy sheen, and natural inclusions. In emeralds, these are called jardin in French, meaning garden, because they resemble moss.

Do not wash the tray under running water: wipe the gilded edge with a dry, soft cloth, without detergents that may damage the gilding. Most emeralds have numerous inclusions and therefore do not withstand impacts well, so place the tray on an even, stable surface.

Box of small amethyst clusters

The box contains several smaller amethyst clusters, 800 g in total, with crystals in shades ranging from purple to black. The box is ready to give as a gift, and the clusters can be placed throughout the apartment. Until October 15, the box is part of the “Open Display Case” promotion and costs PLN 215. Lowest price in the 30 days before the discount: PLN 359.

Great for a housewarming, but not for a windowsill: amethyst fades from too much light. Place it on a shelf or chest of drawers where it is not exposed to sunlight.

How to care for your mineral at home

Mineral What to watch out for How to clean
Emerald with a gilded edge impacts (numerous inclusions) and detergents that may damage the gilding dry, soft cloth
Kyanite chips easily under pressure and impact gently, dry, without scrubbing
Amethyst fades from excessive light away from a sunny window
Agate with a gilded edge rough sponges and detergents (the gilding loses its shine) dry, soft cloth
Black tourmaline fall: it is scratch-resistant but may chip soft cloth
Did you know?

Kyanite has two hardnesses. Along the crystal it is about 5 on the Mohs scale, while across it is about 7, so a steel needle will usually scratch it lengthwise but not across it. Hence its former name, disthene, from the Greek words for “double” and “strength”.

Questions about housewarming gifts

What’s a housewarming gift for someone who has everything? A numbered specimen: the kyanites on stands and the emerald tray have a number listed on their product pages because each is a one-of-a-kind piece, while the agate stands differ in their layered patterns.

What shouldn’t you give as a housewarming gift? Something that doesn’t suit the conditions in the new home. Don’t give amethyst to someone who only has sunny windowsills.

You can see all these specimens at the boutique on Grzybowska Street. Call before your visit, and we’ll set aside the one you choose. Larger specimens - amethyst clusters on bases and druse tables - are in the “Open Display Case” until October 15, and each product page lists the lowest price from the 30 days before the discount.

How we checked this. We took the dimensions, weight, origin, prices and care instructions from the product pages on brazi.pl dated October 1, 2026, and the emerald tray data from October 3. The lowest prices from the 30 days before the discount come from the price register for the “Open Display Case” campaign. We describe amethyst fading in light, emerald’s poor resistance to impact and the name jardin based on the English Wikipedia (the “Amethyst” and “Emerald” articles), tourmaline and kyanite hardness and cleavage, as well as the name disthene, based on the “Tourmalines” and “Kyanite” articles, and agate dyeing in Idar-Oberstein based on the “Agate” article.
