Three mistakes daughters-in-law and sons-in-law make
A ring. It is the most personal piece of jewellery you can give someone—a gift from a partner, not from a son-in-law or daughter-in-law; it also requires knowing the size. A string bracelet or a pendant on an adjustable chain does the same job without measuring a finger.
Guessing the metal. If you cannot remember whether she wears silver or gold, look at a photo from the last family occasion. If that does not help either, choose a string bracelet: the metal is only an addition to the stone, so getting it wrong matters less.
