Kyanite with a deep, sapphire-blue color - a single specimen from Brazil, 11 cm high, on a black stand that raises it to 16 cm. The crystals grow in flat, parallel blades; when held up to the light, lighter streaks and a glassy sheen can be seen through them. At 344 g, it is an object for a desk or shelf, where its vertical form is clearly visible from the side, while the black stand does not detract from its color.

About the stone
Blue kyanite, formerly known as disthene, is an aluminum silicate formed in metamorphic rocks under high pressure. It forms distinctive, bladed crystals with pronounced cleavage and a pearly to glassy luster. Its characteristic feature is unusual directional hardness - the mineral is significantly softer along the crystal axis than across it, which is reflected in its former name meaning “two strengths”.
Care
Due to kyanite's pronounced cleavage, clean it only when dry with a soft cloth and protect it from impacts. Place the specimen on a level surface, away from edges.
