About the stone
Blue kyanite, formerly known as disthene, is an aluminium silicate formed in metamorphic rocks under high pressure. It forms characteristic tabular crystals with pronounced cleavage and a pearly to glassy lustre. Its defining feature is its unusual directional hardness—the mineral is significantly softer along the crystal axis than across it, which is reflected in its former name meaning “two strengths”.
Care
Due to kyanite’s pronounced cleavage, clean it only with a soft, dry cloth and protect it from impacts. Store it in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of a jewellery box.
