Pyrite on Agate Ring, size 14
Pyrite on Agate Ring
Size 14 ring made from Brazilian agate and Peruvian pyrite: a green-black, matte band topped with golden, cubic crystals. In daylight, the pyrite gleams like metal, while the agate reflects nothing - the contrast is sharp and visible from the other end of the table. The pyrite faces feel angular to the touch, while the inside of the band is smooth. The stone is cool at first and quickly takes on the temperature of your hand.

About the stone
This specimen is a natural intergrowth of layered agate, a variety of chalcedony, with cubic pyrite crystals (iron sulfide). This structure forms in rock cavities, where both minerals crystallize successively. The agate's dark, green-black base provides a backdrop for the metallic, golden shimmer of the crystals. The arrangement of the pyrite is always different - no two stones from the same piece ever look identical. Learn more in the article Pyrite - fool's gold on our blog.
Care
Because it contains pyrite, avoid contact between the ring and water or moisture. Clean it only with a dry, soft cloth. Store it in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of your jewelry box.
