Pyrite on Agate Ring, size 13
Pyrite on Agate Ring
Size 13: a ring made from a single piece of agate from Brazil, covered with cubic pyrite crystals from Peru. The dark, matte base and metallic cubes are two minerals in one piece. Pyrite reflects light from its flat faces, while agate absorbs it, so the ring looks like a dark band scattered with golden points. The arrangement of the crystals is different in every piece from this formation.

About the stone
This specimen is a natural combination of two different minerals formed in cavities within rocks. Layered agate, a variety of chalcedony, forms the base here, and cubic crystals of pyrite - iron sulfide - grew on it during a later stage of crystallization. Because of this sequential process, the distribution of the golden crystals on the dark agate base is always different. Find out more in the article Pyrite - fool's gold on our blog.
Care
Avoid contact between pyrite and water or moisture to prevent the metallic crystals from becoming dull. Clean the stone only with a dry cloth. Store it in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of a jewelry box.
