Pyrite on Agate Ring, size 13
Pyrite on Agate Ring
Slip the size 13 ring onto your finger. The agate’s deep greenish-black base has a matte finish, contrasted with pyrite’s metallic sheen. Golden cubic crystals are scattered irregularly across the surface, reflecting light in a very raw, direct way. This contrast between the matte stone and the gleaming metallic specks catches the eye with every movement of your hand. Each piece from this formation has a completely different arrangement of crystals.

About the stone
This specimen is a natural combination of two different minerals formed in cavities within rocks. Layered agate, a variety of chalcedony, forms the base here, onto which cubic crystals of pyrite — iron sulfide — grew during a later stage of crystallization. Due to this sequential process, the arrangement of the golden crystals on the dark agate base is always unique. Learn more in the article Pyrite — fool’s gold on our blog.
Care
Avoid contact between pyrite and water or moisture to prevent the metallic crystals from becoming dull. Clean the stone only with a dry cloth. Store it in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of a jewelry box.
