Raw Pyrite Necklace, Gold-Plated

The pendant on this necklace is a raw pyrite from Peru, measuring approximately 3.5 × 2 cm. The pyrite specimen is held in a gold-plated basket setting with prongs that wrap around its sides, leaving the crystal-covered top exposed. The top is formed of large crystals with flat, mirror-like faces, with one crystal near the center that is noticeably larger than the rest. The sides of the specimen are gray, finely ridged, and less lustrous than the top. The stone shown in the photos is the exact one we’ll send.

About the stone

Pyrite is iron sulfide. It naturally forms perfectly geometric crystals: cubes and pentagonal dodecahedra, with faces that look as if they were cut with a ruler. Its intense metallic luster earned it the nickname “fool’s gold.” Learn more in the article Pyrite — Fool’s Gold on our blog.

Care

Put on the necklace last, once your cream and perfume have had time to absorb. Clean the gold-plated surface with a soft cloth; do not use a silver polishing cloth or polishing pastes. Remove pyrite jewelry before bathing or swimming. The gold plating is covered by a one-year warranty: if a claim is accepted, we will replate the pendant (the warranty does not cover the chain). The plating can also be refreshed later at our workshop — the boutique can provide the price and turnaround time. Store it in a soft pouch or a separate compartment in a jewelry box.
