Gold-Plated Pyrite Teardrop Dangle Earrings

Each stone in this pair of stud-fastening dangle earrings is a raw pyrite specimen from Peru, measuring approximately 1.5 × 1.5 cm. Each pyrite piece is held in a gold-plated prong basket, leaving the crystal-covered top exposed. The pyrite in these teardrops is light steel gray with a metallic golden sheen. Angular crystals cluster along the top edge of each teardrop, while the lower part of the stone is covered in fine, sparkling grains. The stone shown in the photos is the exact piece we will send.

About the stone

Pyrite is iron sulfide, a compound of iron and sulfur. It forms crystals with geometry so precise they look machine-cut: cubes and pyritohedra. Its intense metallic sheen earned pyrite the nickname “fool’s gold.” Learn more in the article Pyrite — Fool’s Gold on our blog.

Care

Apply perfume and hairspray first, then put on your pyrite earrings, and take them off before bed and exercise. Clean the gold-plated surface with a soft cloth; do not use a silver polishing cloth or polishing compounds. Remove pyrite jewelry before bathing or swimming. The gold plating is covered by a one-year warranty: if a claim is approved, we will replate the earrings. The plating can also be refreshed later at our workshop — the boutique can provide the price and turnaround time. Store them in a soft pouch or a separate compartment in a jewelry box.
