About the stone
Ruby is the red variety of corundum, or aluminium oxide. Its characteristic colour, ranging from raspberry shades to deep crimson, is due to the presence of chromium impurities. This stone crystallises in metamorphic and igneous rocks. On the Mohs hardness scale, it is surpassed only by diamond, making it an exceptionally durable mineral.
