About the stone
Kyanite is an aluminum silicate formed in metamorphic rocks under high pressure. It forms characteristic bladed and tabular crystals with pronounced cleavage. A mineralogical curiosity is its directional, unusual hardness—it is significantly softer along the crystal axis than across it, hence its former name, disthene, meaning “two strengths.” This mineral is characterized by a pearly-glassy luster and a cool blue color.
Care
Due to kyanite’s pronounced cleavage and variable hardness, clean the stone only when dry, using a soft cloth. Store it in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of a jewelry box.
