Gold-plated dangling teardrop pyrite earrings

Dangling, post-back earrings with raw pyrite from Peru; each stone measures approximately 1.5 × 1.5 cm. Each pyrite piece is held by a gold-plated prong basket setting, leaving the crystal-covered top exposed. The crystals’ flat faces reflect light at different angles, making the pyrite sparkle with many points of light at once. The narrower teardrop has crystals gathered along a ridge, while the wider one has an even, dense layer. The stone shown in the photos is the exact piece we will send.

About the stone

Chemically, pyrite is iron sulfide, and its crystals grow in ruler-straight shapes—as cubes and pentagonal dodecahedra. The cubic crystals shine with a metallic golden luster, which earned the mineral the nickname “fool’s gold.” Learn more in the article Pyrite — fool’s gold on our blog.

Care

Take off your pyrite earrings before working out, cleaning, and sleeping. Clean the gold-plated surface with a soft cloth, without using a silver polishing cloth or polishing compounds. Remove pyrite jewelry before bathing or swimming. The gold plating is covered by a one-year warranty: if a claim is accepted, we will replate the earrings. The plating can also be refreshed later at our workshop—the boutique can provide the price and turnaround time. Store in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of a jewelry box.
