A promise ring is given as a sign that the relationship is serious, either before an engagement or instead of one. It can be worn on any finger. Here, a rock crystal ring on an elastic cord costs PLN 69, in silver or gold-plated silver. Instead of choosing a size down to the millimetre, you choose S (48–51 mm), M (52–55 mm), or L (56–59 mm).
- What it means: a committed relationship. It may foreshadow an engagement, serve as a keepsake during a long-distance relationship, or be a sign for couples who do not plan to marry.
- Finger: any finger; there is no single rule. Beware of the ring finger of the right hand: in Poland, engagement rings and wedding bands are worn there.

What does a promise ring mean?
Most often, a promise ring means this: we are together and are not looking for anyone else, although the exact meaning is determined by the couple. According to GIA, the American Gemological Institute, couples who are waiting to get married, living far apart, or not planning to marry at all wear one.
It does not have as established a meaning as an engagement ring, so it is better to discuss it before giving one, so the other person does not mistake the gift for a marriage proposal. The same name is sometimes also used for a purity ring, worn as a sign of abstinence until marriage.
The collections of London's Victoria and Albert Museum include a gold ring from 1500–1530 with the French inscription “Ung temps viendra,” meaning “the time will come.” It is a posy ring, from the English word poesy, poetry. According to the museum, rings with love inscriptions have been known since the 14th century and served as gifts from a loved one, engagement rings, or wedding bands.
Which finger should you wear a promise ring on?
On whichever one you want. GIA lists the ring finger or middle finger of the left hand, the middle or ring finger of the right hand, and even a chain around the neck. It is most commonly worn on the ring finger of the left hand, which is where engagement rings are worn in the UK and US. After the wedding, as GIA writes, it often moves to the right hand.
In Poland, it is the other way around, because an engagement ring and wedding band are worn on the ring finger of the right hand. The family may easily mistake a promise ring worn on this finger for an engagement ring. If you do not want to answer questions about the wedding date, choose the left hand or another finger.

For elastic rings, you only need to know your finger circumference in millimeters and choose the S, M or L range.
When to give a promise ring
There is no fixed rule about how many months into a relationship to give one, and any occasion will do. Most questions about promise rings are asked in December: in Poland, the term is entered into Google approximately 18,000 times then, half as often again as in an average month.
In the past, men gave promise rings to women, but today many couples exchange them with each other, so you can give one to your boyfriend for Boyfriend's Day. First, measure his finger: the largest elastic-ring size, L, fits a circumference of 56–59 mm. If his finger is thicker, choose L and enter the exact circumference in the order comments, and we will make the ring to that measurement.

How much does a promise ring with a natural stone cost
The size does not affect the price, and sterling silver and gold-plated silver cost the same. The stone makes the difference, while the most expensive model features 585 gold.
PLN 69: rock crystal or pink tourmaline. The faceted beads are approximately 3 mm and threaded onto jewelry elastic together with 925 sterling silver or gold-plated silver beads. Rock crystal is colorless, so it goes well with both silver and gold.
PLN 99: ruby, also available as approximately 3 mm beads on elastic cord, with sterling silver or gold-plated silver elements. Ruby inspired the REGARD rings, fashionable in the 19th century as a symbol of affection. The first letters of the English names of the stones (ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby, diamond) formed the word “regard”, meaning respect.
PLN 559: rock crystal in a trillion cut, meaning a triangular cut, from the Romantic Story line, in 925 silver or gold-plated silver. The stone measures 10 × 10 × 5 mm, while the band is just 1.5 mm wide and adjustable. Choose the size according to the numbers in the chart: S is 10-14, M 15-18, L 19-23. In 585 gold, the same ring costs PLN 4299.
From a distance, a single clear stone in a setting looks like an engagement ring. If a promise ring is meant to signal an engagement to come, it's a good choice. If it is meant to be discreet, choose stones on an elastic cord. The ring from the Romantic Story line is made to order and takes up to 20 business days, so it will not arrive in time for today.
