Not in terms of hardness: rock crystal has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, while topaz (8), corundum, or ruby and sapphire (9), and diamond (10) are harder. Crystal healing, however, calls it the strongest stone: it is considered the “king of crystals” and a stone that can cleanse its surroundings and enhance the effects of other stones. Our rock crystal ring costs PLN 69, and we’ll show jewelry and specimens from our rock crystal collection during a broadcast on Facebook on Tuesday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m.
- Hardness: Rock crystal has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, so it’s harder than glass but softer than topaz, corundum and diamond.
- What it is: A colorless, transparent variety of quartz, the same mineral that amethyst, citrine and smoky quartz are made of.
- Why it’s famous: The ancients thought it was ice that never melts, while crystal healing attributes to it the power to enhance other stones.
- Broadcast: Tuesday, November 3, 7:00 p.m., on the Brazi Druse Jewelry Facebook page; make a purchase by entering the code shown during the broadcast in a comment.
Mohs scale: rock crystal has a hardness of 7, while topaz, corundum and diamond rank higher
Mineralogy has no single measure of a stone’s “strength.” The Mohs scale measures only scratch resistance: it ranks minerals according to which ones scratch others, from talc (1) to diamond (10). Rock crystal is quartz, so it has a hardness of 7. It scratches glass (approx. 5.5), and can itself be scratched by topaz (8), corundum (9) or diamond (10).
For everyday use, this hardness is enough: household dust contains quartz particles that can barely scratch a stone of the same hardness, according to the International Gem Society. Quartz also has no cleavage and breaks with a conchoidal fracture, so an impact won’t split it along planes, as can happen with topaz. However, the sharp points of raw crystals can chip against a stone countertop.
We’ve laid out the entire scale from 1 to 10, using household objects and stones used in jewelry, in our article the hardest minerals: the Mohs scale from 1 to 10.
Where the “strongest stone” reputation comes from: ice, the “king of crystals” and a watch
The word “crystal” comes from the Greek krýstallos, meaning “ice.” Pliny the Elder wrote in “Natural History” that crystal was a kind of ice frozen by intense cold and that it could be found where winter snow froze most solidly.
W lithotherapy, the tradition of attributing effects on well-being to stones, rock crystal is considered a universal stone: it is said to enhance the effects of other stones and “cleanse” its surroundings. This is the source of claims that it is the most powerful stone, found in guides and jewelry descriptions. W the same tradition, black tourmaline is considered the most powerful protective stone, and the history of rock crystal, from antiquity to jewelry, is described in our guide to rock crystal.
The quartz that rock crystal is made of generates an electric charge when pressure is applied. This phenomenon, piezoelectricity, was described by brothers Pierre and Jacques Curie in 1880. Thanks to it, a quartz plate, now grown in laboratories, keeps time in quartz watches: in a typical watch, it vibrates 32,768 times per second.

Under PLN 150: an elastic-cord ring and two bracelets
Rock crystal ring for PLN 69 features faceted crystals approximately 3 mm in size on an elastic jewelry cord, with sterling silver or gold-plated silver components. Choose from three sizes: S (48–51 mm finger circumference), M (52–55 mm) or L (56–59 mm).
The rock crystal nugget cord bracelet costs 140 zł, is handmade, and has an adjustable size, so you don't need to know your wrist circumference. The smaller 3 mm bead bracelet for 150 zł has a 14 cm circumference, a 4 cm extender, and a lobster clasp; the clasp, chain section, and decorative bead are made of silver or gold-plated silver.
Gold-plated rock crystal rings from 250 zł
The photo above shows several gold-plated rock crystal rings. W the ring with a gold-plated band costs 250 zł: the band covers the front surface at the base of the crystals, leaving their tips exposed, and the whole ring measures approx. 2 × 3 cm. The gold plating is a layer of 24-karat gold, and we provide a one-year warranty.
W the collection, there are also rings that are gold-plated all over, including on the inside, with an exposed druzy at the front - a layer of tiny crystals grown on a shared base. Each of these rings is one of a kind and comes in a fixed size stated in its name. The band is made of stone, including beneath the gold plating, and is wider than usual, so we recommend choosing one size up; you can find the size chart and step-by-step finger measurement instructions in the article about stone rings from the October delivery.

Table No. 242 is a 10 kg rock crystal cluster, 33 cm wide, set on a metal frame. It stands 60 cm tall with the frame, the same height as a sofa side table, and costs 5,999 PLN.
Both are one-of-a-kind pieces, and the photos on the product pages show exactly the stones you’ll receive.

How we verified this. Prices, availability, dimensions, and materials are taken from product pages on brazi.pl (as of November 3, 2026; prices rechecked before publication). Mohs hardness is based on the mindat.org and GIA databases, the statement about dust on the International Gem Society, and the ancient belief about ice on Pliny the Elder’s “Natural History” (Book 37). The date piezoelectricity was discovered is based on Wikipedia, and how long Facebook makes livestream recordings available is based on the rules announced by Meta in February 2025. We describe lithotherapy beliefs as tradition, based on guides and descriptions of stones.
