For a round face, choose dangling earrings; for a square face, hoops or an arch; for an oblong face, hoops or a shorter, wider style; and for an oval face, any of these. In the style conventions described in the jewelry guides by Blue Nile and Brilliant Earth, earring shapes balance the lines of the face. If you don't know the recipient's face shape, choose studs as a gift. We have dangling earrings, hoops and studs in silver with gemstones: dangling gray agate slices on silver French hooks for PLN 160, 925 sterling silver hoops with rhodochrosite (4.5 cm) for PLN 269, and amethyst druzy star studs in gold-plated settings, on 925 sterling silver posts for PLN 220.
- Two-minute mirror test: trace your face on the glass with lip liner and check where it's widest and whether it's noticeably longer than it is wide.
- Round face: dangling earrings add length, while large, thin hoops echo its shape. Example: agate slices on silver French hooks for PLN 160.
- Other face shapes: an arch suits a square face, like the crescent moon with citrine druzy; hoops with rhodochrosite suit an oblong face; teardrops suit heart-shaped and diamond-shaped faces, like these same agate slices; and all four pairs suit an oval face.
- As a gift: choose a stud if you don't know the recipient's face shape, as it sits close to the earlobe and doesn't add length. Just check that the recipient's ears are pierced.
What is my face shape? A two-minute mirror test
Tie your hair back and stand facing a mirror. Use an old lip liner to mark dots on the glass at your hairline, temples, along your jawline and on your chin, then connect them. You can also use a straight-on photo instead of a mirror.
Step back and check where your face is widest: at the forehead, cheekbones or jawline. Then compare its width with its length from the hairline to the chin.

What earrings suit a round face: hanging agate slice, PLN 160
For a round face, choose earrings that hang below the earlobe and draw the eye downward: elongated, narrow, or teardrop-shaped styles. Both guides advise caution with large, thin hoops, as the circular shape echoes the roundness of the face.
We recommend these gray agate slices on silver ear wires, in a cool color palette and without gold plating. The ear wire passes through the earlobe and stays in place without a clasp, while the slice hangs freely and moves when you turn your head. Held up to the light, the agate reveals translucent layers and wood-grain patterns. Each slice in the pair has a different pattern of lines.
Square face: crescent curve, PLN 250
The curve balances an angular jaw, so hoops and dangle earrings with rounded lines work well.
These citrine druzy crescent moons have a similar curve and cost PLN 250. Druzy is a cluster of tiny, raw crystals; here, it sits in a prong setting. All the earring components are made of 925 sterling silver. A rhodochrosite hoop also works well for a square face.
Oblong face: 4.5 cm hoop, PLN 269
With an oblong face, earrings should add width, so hoops and shorter, wider shapes work well. Very long, narrow dangles make the face look even longer.
Rhodocrosite hoops are 4.5 cm in diameter and are the smaller of our two sizes (the large ones are 6 cm). Faceted raspberry rhodochrosite beads, each 4 mm in diameter, are threaded onto the hoop. The main product photo shows the gold-plated version; you can select the silver one there for the same price.
Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate with a hardness of 3.5–4 on the Mohs scale, which makes it a soft stone. W product details, we recommend cleaning the hoops only with a soft, dry cloth and keeping them away from perfume. Care instructions for other stones are in our guide to cleaning gemstone jewelry.
Heart-shaped face: a style that's wider at the bottom
Teardrops and other earrings that are wider at the bottom suit a narrow chin. The gray agate slices are teardrop-shaped, so one pair works for both round and heart-shaped faces.
Oval face: every style suits you
An stud, hoop, and drop earrings all suit an oval face, so choose according to your outfit and the occasion. Be careful with very long drop earrings, as they can make your face look too long.
Like wearing large hoops with a round face? Wear them, because stylists' tips are just suggestions for balancing the lines of your face.
925 silver, gold-plated silver, or brass
You can check the metal in the product details, under “Setting” or “Material.” For the rhodochrosite hoops, it says “925 silver,” and the “Gold-Plated 925 Silver” option is made of the same silver, coated with gold. Some of our druzy studs, however, have gold-plated brass settings, so they are not silver earrings.
If you have a nickel allergy, choose our 925 silver earrings, including gold-plated ones. According to our workshop, the silver we use to make jewelry contains no nickel, and we gold-plate it without an intermediate nickel layer. We don't have information on whether our brass contains nickel.
What earrings should you give as a gift when you don't know their face shape?
Choose a stud: it sits against the earlobe and adds no length. Brilliant Earth considers it one of the most versatile styles because it looks visually lightweight. With a round face, it's better to avoid wide button-shaped studs, and with a square face, angular ones.
Amethyst druzy star stud earrings for PLN 220 have a gold-plated prong setting, while the post and butterfly back are made of 925 silver. The star has angular lines, so if you know the recipient has a square face, go for the crescents.
All four pairs are for pierced ears, so make sure the recipient has pierced ears before buying. You’ll find other drop earrings, hoops, and studs in our natural stone earrings collection.
W Queen Puabi’s tomb in Ur, in what is now Iraq, archaeologists found a pair of gold crescent-shaped earrings dating from 2600–2450 BCE. One of them, about 10 cm tall, is now in the collections of the Penn Museum in Philadelphia.
You can take a closer look at the earrings at our boutique on Grzybowska Street. If you’re coming for a specific pair, call ahead: we’ll check that it hasn’t sold and set it aside for you.

How we checked. Prices, materials, and dimensions come from brazi.pl product pages dated October 30, 2026, and we checked the prices again before publication; we describe the shape of the mineral slices and druzy based on photos. Matching earrings to face shape is a stylist convention: we share tips that recur in guides by jewelers Blue Nile and Brilliant Earth. The composition of our silver and gold plating is information from our workshop. The lip-liner test is described by PureWow and Velvet Eyewear, the hardness of rhodochrosite is listed in the Handbook of Mineralogy, and the Puabi earrings are cataloged by the Penn Museum (B17712A). The phrase “what earrings suit a round face” was searched on Google around 260 times in December 2025 (an average of around 189 times per month), and “silver earrings” around 60,500 times (Google Ads estimate via DataForSEO, measured October 2–3, 2026).
