About the stone
Blue kyanite is an aluminum silicate that forms in metamorphic rocks under high pressure. It creates distinctive blade-like and tabular crystals with pronounced cleavage. This mineral is notable for its unusual directional hardness—it is significantly softer along its axis than across it, which is why it was formerly known as “disthene.” It has a pearly to vitreous luster and streaks of blue.
